Wormfarm
Broadway Tavern
December 15, 1995

style n. air of distinction or fashion or superiority; Chocko Wormfarm's red Safari suit last Friday night ...

The Stereo Spectacular that is Wormfarm is more than a feast for the ears, it has always been a festival for the eyes and, of course, your dancin' feet. Back home in their familiar territorial watering-hole, the Broadway Tavern, Wormfarm again doused us all in their flare, flares and flails.

Launching another local release, their third called Stereo Spectacular, most of the hip set were there once again to take in the passion of driving Toranas through Kwinana, the motocross mayhem of Bunbury City Speedway and the size and hairiness of Sasquatch. Adding to this already comprehensive cultural commentary was an assortment of new hits, a set which is bound to be etched in memory by the end of this summer.

With bass amps fizzing and popping and indeed Sassy Gav's bass strut contorting him almost horizontally most of the time, Wormfarm amassed their Mudhoney-esque arsenal to strike another blow for bogan world domination.

It was sad, though, not to see drummer Mr G emerge for his kit and shmooz to his adoring lady fans like he used to do, but that Jamie character from The Neptunes did manage to wring a little power pop from the lads in their best impersonation of melody I have seen so far.

Seeing Cameo Appearance simultaneously strum, take his guitar off and put it back on again on the return strum was also a very special moment. From the dark side of Mandurah and back, Wormfarm rule the hick world.

The West Australian is W.A.'s state newspaper. The versions appearing here are the unedited versions which were subsequently edited for space, clarity and reality for publication by editors Sue Yeap and Ara Jansen. Italicised comments in the body of the reviews/interviews - if present - are the notes I sent to the editors to clarify certain situations such as missed deadlines, personal disasters or simple non sequitur, which always makes for good reading.
